MEET PAT WEIR

Pat has lived his whole life in the Darling Downs region of Queensland. He grew up near Cecil Plains on the family property ‘Donegal’ where he produced grain and cotton and ran a small cattle breeding herd.

Agriculture has played a significant role in Pat’s life and continues to be interested in the primary industry sector and its future.


In his younger days Pat enjoyed playing sport and became involved in cricket and golf in the Cecil Plains area. He served on the committees of the Cecil Plains Rodeo Association, and Cricket and Golf Clubs an experience which he enjoyed immensely and values highly to this day.


Pat has always held a great interest in politics which led him to becoming the LNP candidate for the Condamine electorate, winning the seat at the 2015 State Election.

In his first year in Parliament Pat was appointed as a member of the Parliamentary Finance and Administration Committee. In 2018 Pat was promoted to the Deputy Chair position on the State Development, Natural Resources and Agricultural Industry DevelopmentCommittee, and appointed as a Member (Leader of the Opposition’s Nominee) on the Committee of the Legislative Assembly.

 

Pat performed the role of Temporary Speaker fromFebruary 2018 until the State Election was called in late 2020. In November 2020 Pat was appointed as the Shadow Minister for Natural Resources, Mines and Energy by the Leader of the Opposition David Crisafulli. In February 2024, Pat was appointed as Deputy Chair of the Clean Economy Jobs, Resources and Transport Committee. During his term as the local member Pat has been an active supporter of local rural shows, service clubs, fundraising events, schools, local businesses, and many community groups. Pat has proudly attended citizenship ceremonies, school presentation and commemorative functions and several special birthday and wedding anniversary celebrations.

 

He is involved in several working groups including the Agricultural Transport & Logistics working group, the Oakey Local Level Alliance, and the Renew Crows Nest Steering Committee.Pat has two grown up children, a daughter, and a son, who are both living and working in the Toowoomba area.
